This chapter is, insulting the spirit of grace. This is what the blasphemy of the holy spirit is also. This is the sin Ananias, and his wife Sapphira has committed,5 in the books of Acts.5:1-10. This is what the Pharisees in the time of Lord Jesus has expressed and in reciprocity, Lord warned them that there is no forgiveness to them those who blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Although, the chapter of the blasphemy of the Holy Spirit in our learning will be in another section, we have to touch a little of the topic here also.
In fact, either Ananias and Sapphira or those Pharisees never uttered any word against the Holy Spirit. The blasphemy of the Holy Spirit cannot be committed like that, by uttering any words against the Holy Spirit. We will examine what Ananias and Sapphira has done at first. Let's turn to Acts.5:1-11.
1But a certain man named Ananias, with Sapphira his wife, sold a possession, 2And kept back part of the price, his wife also being privy to it, and brought a certain part, and laid it at the apostles' feet. 3But Peter said, Ananias, why hath Satan filled thine heart to lie to the Holy Ghost, and to keep back part of the price of the land? 4Whiles it remained, was it not thine own? and after it was sold, was it not in thine own power? why hast thou conceived this thing in thine heart? thou hast not lied unto men, but unto God. 5And Ananias hearing these words fell down, and gave up the ghost: and great fear came on all them that heard these things. 6And the young men arose, wound him up, and carried him out, and buried him.
7And it was about the space of three hours after, when his wife, not knowing what was done, came in. 8And Peter answered unto her, Tell me whether ye sold the land for so much? And she said, Yea, for so much. 9Then Peter said unto her, How is it that ye have agreed together to tempt the Spirit of the Lord? behold, the feet of them which have buried thy husband are at the door, and shall carry thee out. 10Then fell she down straightway at his feet, and yielded up the ghost: and the young men came in, and found her dead, and, carrying her forth, buried her by her husband. 11And great fear came upon all the church, and upon as many as heard these things.
Peter declares them that the couple had agreed together to tempt the spirit of the Lord. Tempting the spirit of the Lord will be in different extents. After all every minor sin we do is against the triune God. So, God the Holy Spirit will be grieved to any of the small sins we do. Ephesians.4:30,31 says "And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
31 Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice". There is no difference in the magnitude of the sin we do. Every small sin must lead us straight to the eternal hell. But God exhibits so much patience towards us and forgives all our sins once we confess. But in the previous chapter, we understood that cain didn’t want to confess the sin when God confronts cain of his brother's murder. So, there is an extent of committing a sin up to which the person doesn’t want to confess the sin anymore. So, there is something in the extent of resisting the Holy Spirit, so that a person could reach the threshold of "insulting the spirit of grace". And the name of the threshold limit is nothing but the willful sin. Remember, when we first divided the hebrews.10:26 into different factors, although that is our first subheading, we skipped to learn the definition of "the willful sin" for latter. We took all the context from Hebrews.10:26-31, where the case of willful sin is mentioned. So, the next thing is we are going to learn about the "willful sin" factor, which we skipped to learn at first. Once we start understanding it, we will understand all sorts of unpardonable sins, and there would be no fear of unforgivable sin anymore. The case of Ananias and Sapphira and the case of cain will repeatedly be appeared in our learning along with a few other names from the bible. So, keep listening or reading the updates. Do follow us so that you will learn it completely.
Now, how will the intensity of a sin vary. What are called big sins and what are called small sins? There is no difference between a big sin and a small sin. When we commit a minor sin knowingly, we are committing it against the almighty God who created all the heavens and the Earth. God is unimaginably powerful, and our brains cannot comprehend the greatness of God. So, a minor mistake we commit turns to be a huge sin. It all depends on how great our God is. Not on how grievous the sin we commits is. So, there is no minor sin. But how does this unforgivable sin differ from the other sins? That depends on how much close you are to God. If you have close fellowship with God, God will put in your heart, the resistance to commit the sin and the resistance is proportional to how close your fellowship is with God. Your closer fellowship to God depends on what extent of intensity you are filled with the Holy Spirit in your heart at that moment. So, if you are filled with the Holy Spirit, that means you are closer to God proportionally, and the severity of the sin completely depends on how intense you are filled with the Holy Spirit itself. Look Ananias and Sapphira are first century Christians, definitely were filled by the Holy Spirit so intense like any of the other first century disciples, learning and listening about God at apostles themselves. Now we can assume they are so close to God in their heart and still determined to commit such a sin, when there are full chances of resisting the sin so easily, if they choose to. That’s a minor mistake to put some of their own money aside. But in their heart, there is a severe objection and opposition from the Holy Spirit to not commit the sin because God is living in their hearts. Still, they only choose to resist the Holy Spirit and commit the sin. Even when Lord Jesus warned Pharisees about Blaspheming the Holy Spirit, ain't those Pharisees are so close to God himself who is in the human form and ain't they were witnessing all the miracles Lord is performing in front of themselves? Still, they decided to resist the Holy Spirit and decided to claim that the miracles done by Lord Jesus was done with the help of devil. This is called blaspheming the Holy Spirit unto no forgiveness of the sin anymore. But what's the pattern?
Once we go to learn about the definition of "the willful sin", we will fully understand all about this. So don't miss any update.
