6.Counting the blood of covenant an unholy thing

Updated: Nov 11, 2024

How can someone count the blood of the covenant, an unholy thing? How's that possible? What should someone do so that he could reach the criteria of 'counting the blood of covenant, an unholy thing?' Let's check in the bible. cain did that. Before he could fully accomplish the sequence of committing the unforgivable sin, cain initiated by counting the blood of covenant, an unholy thing. But if he just initiates it at first, then how is it possible to fulfill that sin latter? Fully accomplishing an unforgivable sin is a sequence. No one could do that all of sudden. It is not in that manner; God confirms that a person has committed the unpardonable sin. In fact, it is not God that decides if that person should be forgiven or not, but the person decides. Just like cain didn't want to confess the sin, the person who committed such sin don't want to confess the sin.

These three things are identical. 5) trodding under the feet the Son of God.6) Counting the blood of covenant, an unholy thing.7) Doing despite unto the spirit of grace. (Insulting the spirit of grace). If you commit one thing in it, you committed the rest of the two also. Here is the good news. That is, you never committed it. So, if a person 'trod under his feet the son of God', that means he 'counted the blood of covenant, an unholy thing' and also he 'did despite unto the spirit of grace'. If anyone did one point in that, they did the rest of the two also.

Now coming to the point, how did cain counted the blood of covenant, an unholy thing? Let's go to genesis.4:2-5. Now Abel kept flocks, and Cain worked the soil. 3 In the course of time Cain brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. 4 And Abel also brought an offering—fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The Lord looked with favor on Abel and his offering, 5 but on Cain and his offering he did not look with favor. So, Cain was very angry, and his face was downcast. What did Abel bring to the Lord as an offering? Fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. How did Abel offer to God these first born from his flocks? He will kill them before the Lord as a sacrifice. This is how anything must be offered to the Lord. What does it resemble? It resembles that, God almighty, Lord Jesus has to die on the cruel cross as an offering before the Lord God, so that He could take away the sins of the humankind, to bear the punishment for the sins of the human beings on their stead. Only in this manner, God accepts an offering. Yes, Abel is the keeper of flocks. So the portions from the firstborn of his flocks are available to him. But this is how God accepts any human being, solely in the way of the death of Lord Jesus Christ. Or else there is no other way.

If you want to offer anything other than the way given by God, God will utterly tear it down. No other options. God has given a way. This is how we have to reach God. So, by this, we can clearly understand that Lord Jesus is the only way. But cain didn't bring any blood sacrifice. He did something in his own way. Let us turn to Psalms.50:5. What bible says there? Gather My saints together to Me, those who have made a covenant with Me by sacrifice. That meaning, if you basically wish to enter into any covenant with God almighty, you have to enter into it only through some sacrifice offering. In the Old Testament, Israelites are bound to offer different types of animal sacrifices. They all resemble the death of the lord Jesus Christ on the cross. God shed his own blood so that all the sins of the people whoever accepts His sacrifice and whoever accepts Him as their Lord and the only savior, will be wiped away with his blood. God himself made a covenant on our behalf with his own sacrifice on that cross. If we have to enter into his covenant, we have to believe that God himself died on that cross and shed his blood for you and accept Him as your God and savior. Then you will enter into the covenant with God almighty. But cain brought something other than the blood sacrifice. What did cain do? He brought some of the fruits of the soil as an offering to the Lord. He didn't bring anything as a blood sacrifice, which must resemble that, God have to die as a sacrifice, on his behalf. So, there is no way God will accept cain's offering.

Then what does it mean if he brings, some of the fruits as an offering? It means, that cain believes that he could reach God by his good works. Here 'some of the fruits' brought by cain falsely indicates that, man could reach God by his own good works. God never accepts this way. Isaiah.64:6 says, "all our righteous acts are like filthy rags". Any man who wishes to be accepted by God will be accepted by the death sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ alone. Once we accept him as our own savior, then all our good works are counted at God as precious deeds. Or else God will total trash any of our good works. Abel offered a fat portion from his flocks. Now we can think that Abel is a flock keeper and that's why animals which should be offered are available to him. But cain was a farmer and that's why he brought some fruits because they are the available products at him. But we have to understand one thing. Who said Abel to offer some animals as a sacrifice? Both Abel and cain somehow knows or had the information about the blood shedding of God. When Abel offers animals, cain should buy some animals at Abel and offer them at God so that he could be accepted. He thought, his good works can take him to God. That is not possible. This cain rejected the blood of God to be offered on his behalf and in addition, he offered some good deeds to God to be accepted for his sake. So cain counted the blood of covenant, an unholy thing.

What Hebrew Christians of the first centaury have to do with counting the blood of covenant an unholy thing? At first, they entered into the blood covenant by accepting Lord Jesus as their own savior. Now they are looking back into Judaism, their previous religion to gain the salvation. Once you experience the salvation and enters into Lord's covenant by his sacrifice, you cannot go back to anywhere to gain the salvation, because you already experienced the salvation in the only way give to mankind. This is what the writer of Hebrews warning them in Hebrews.10:25. 25 not forsaking the assembling of ourselves together, as is the manner of some, but exhorting one another, and so much the more as you see the Day approaching. If this Jewish Chrisitians at that time cease to gather as a Church, the Christian faith may fade away and their previous releigion will enter into them for sure. So, they are in the danger of counting the way of Lord Jesus and his blood of covenant an unholy thing. But still it will not accomplish the unpardonable sin. It still have some of the other things to do in order to commit such a sin. We will learn it in forth coming pages.
