(2) Faithful Witness
And you know that He was manifested to take away our sins, and in Him there is no sin. 1John.3:5
The meaning for the word 'faithful witness' is, the one who never tells a lie or the person who never cheats even if he got to lose his life, for the truth's sake. Lord Jesus is the faithful witness. God is nothing but a holy God. Even if He have to face the death, the death of such a cruel cross, Lord Jesus never denied about himself, that he is the son of God. In luke.12:50, Lord said, "There is a baptism with which I must be baptized, and how great is my anguish until it is accomplished!". There is a lot of trouble in Jesus about the cross He have to endure. But Lord Jesus is so strongly determined to do the will of God, and at a time claimed that, doing the will of the father is His food. In John.4:34, He said to his disciples, "Jesus saith unto them, my meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work". Also, in John.17:4, Lord Jesus just before the crucifixion, praying to the father says, "I have glorified thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do." So great are Lord's statements. No one in this world could say such words.
In the garden of Gethsemane, Lord is begging the Father to show if there is any other way, other than the cross he has to bear, for the redemption of the sins of humankind. He asked God, in luke.22:42, "Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done". From the begining, Lord knows that he has to experience all the pain and suffering. Even Jews always wants to degrade Jesus. They want to listen from His mouth that He is not The Messiah. Thats why again and again, they kept on asking, "Then came the Jews round about him, and said unto him, How long dost thou make us to doubt? If thou be the Christ, tell us plainly.(John.10:24)". Even in the eighth chapter, they kept on asking the Lord, "Who art thou? (John.8:25)". But Lord never denied himself that He is the Messiah, He is the Son of God Almighty, never denied He is God, never denied He came from above. In the same chapter Jesus said that 'God is His father', while Jews doesn't want to listen to Him saying that God is His father, because when He says that God is His father, He is making Himself equal to God. This is how, Jews at that time will understand when he says that he the Son of God. But what did Lord Jesus say? He is so straight forward. Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.(John.8:55). Lord never tried to please Jews or any other human beings, as He got to stand as a Faithful Witness. Lord Jesus never sinned. Apostle Peter, one of his closest disciples states, in 1Peter.2:22, “He committed no sin, and no deceit was found in his mouth.”
For any person living in this world, it is very hard to live a life without sin at least a day. It seems like impossible for us. But Lord lived such a life and given an example for us. What did Jesus say in John.8:46 "Which of you convicts Me of sin? And if I tell the truth, why do you not believe Me?". None can challenge like that in this world, other than the Son of God who is the faithful witness. Lord Jesus while living in this world has undergone every situation like us, but He never sinned. It seems like it is not possible to live a sinless life, but Jesus lived such a life. "but For we do not have a high priest who cannot sympathize with our weaknesses, but One who has been tempted in all things as we are, yet without sin. Heb.4:5" Can anybody says or said that there is no sin in them? Except the one, our lord and savior Jesus Christ? He is God. So amazing to think that a person who lived in this world can live their life without a single sin. Lord just proved it. Thats an astonishing thing. Even before the hundreds of years before his birth, a prophet named Isaiah prophesized that lord has no sin in Him. Isaiah.53:9 says, "Nor was there any deceit in His mouth".
Apostle Paul writing his first letter to timothy giving many instructions warns timothy telling......in 1Tim.6:13"I give thee charge in the sight of God, who quickeneth all things, and before Christ Jesus, who before Pontius Pilate witnessed a good confession"; What testimony did Lord Jesus gave before pilate? The discussion between pilate and Lord Jesus was written John.18 chapter. 33 Then Pilate entered into the judgment hall again, and called Jesus, and said unto him, Art thou the King of the Jews?34 Jesus answered him, Sayest thou this thing of thyself, or did others tell it thee of me?35 Pilate answered, Am I a Jew? Thine own nation and the chief priests have delivered thee unto me: what hast thou done?36 Jesus answered, My kingdom is not of this world: if my kingdom were of this world, then would my servants fight, that I should not be delivered to the Jews: but now is my kingdom not from hence.37 Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.38 Pilate saith unto him, What is truth? And when he had said this, he went out again unto the Jews, and saith unto them, I find in him no fault at all. Lord is faithful unto his death by crucifixion. Now God is demanding the same thing from us. If you will be faithful to God unto your death Lord gives you heaven. be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.Rev.2:10.
